Firstly, you may be wondering – what actually is cupping?
Well, dry cupping is one of the oldest recorded treatments for releasing toxins from the body.
Also known as vacuum cupping, it involves placing suction cups onto the skin.
The suction draws the tissue up into the cup and away from the muscle belly/structures below, encouraging blood flow to the affected area, and often leaving funky circular bruises (see Michael Phelps)!
Below is a list of the top 3 ways cupping therapy can help:
- Reducing pain and inflammation
- Improves/encourages blood flow
- Facilitates healing process
It is therefore perfect for assisting in the treatment of:
- Lower back pain
- Post workout soreness
- Muscle tears
- Post match injury
- and much more!
There are many different types of cupping, the one Sophia practices here at Instant Physio is called dry cupping. This involves placing suction cups onto the skin using a hand pump.
Other types of cupping include: fire cupping; wet cupping; moxa cupping; and horn cupping. Though these types of cupping are less widely used.
