Do you ever wake up and feel like it’s going to be a slow start or that you are going to feeling ‘groggy’ for the rest of the day?

Or feel like until it gets to about 11am you don’t want to talk to anyone or do much?!

Well, it turns out that there are some scientific reasons why this happens and even better there are lots of easy things that you can do to remedy them.

In this weeks blog post I share with you 5 things that I do which helps me start my day right:

1. Move

While you sleep your lymphatic system is hard at work doing the housecleaning chores, flushing away the waste products your body creates.

One of the biggest reasons you feel so tired and sluggish is because of this ‘lymph fluid’ collecting around the body preventing you from moving freely and making you feel stiff and sometimes sore.

Try doing a gentle 5 minute yoga sequence to kick start your day.

This encourages your lymph system to flush away toxins that have collected in and around your body and will make you feel invigorated.

2. Rehydrate

You lose around a pound of water when you sleep.

Starting the day this dehydrated is like running a car without any oil!

Take on at least a pint of water with a good squeeze of lemon juice and half a teaspoon of sea salt if you can take it.

Sweating causes you to lose a lot of electrolytes as well which are key to your body performing.

3. Natural Light

Sunlight in the morning is proven to kickstart your primal reflex and make you feel more awake.

Spend 5-10 minutes getting some natural sunlight to boost your mood.

4. Gratitude

Write down 3 things you are grateful for.

Gratitude is the antidote for negative thinking and will help you start the day in the right mind frame.

Your brain doesn’t know the difference between reality and your thoughts.

So, reliving something you are grateful like a recent success or thinking of a loved one will mean the body relives how that particular experience makes you feel and release all the positive emotions that go with it.

5. Cold shower

This takes a while to get used to!

The shock to your body is better than any morning coffee.

Having your normal shower then finishing off with 30 seconds of cold water and building up from there is the best strategy – be brave!

So there you have it, some simple things to try tomorrow morning to kickstart you into having a better start to your day.
